Business in Practice – See What We Produced!

Activity Goals:
1.Learners will collaboratively determine a product to market to the other teams.
2.Learners will engage in discussions with team members and other learners to discuss the products developed.
3.Learners will build skills for interacting with other learners in the course.
4.Learners will build communication skills using an online asynchronous discussion board.
5. Learners will build team member communication skills and develop group project skills.
6. Learners will use materials from the readings and the web to create a product based on an authentic learning scenario.
7. Learners will practice peer assessment skills.

Learner Poll - Learners must participate in a course poll to determine the product they would purchase – 10 minutes
Approximate Time - 3 hours total

Materials Required:
1. Access to the ANGEL learning management system BA 101 course;
a) access to the asynchronous discussion board
b) participate in the Product Poll
2. Learner instructions provided within the forum.
Course Content Preparation:
1. Create a discussion post for learners with the list of requirements.
2. Require a minimum of one original post from the team and each class member must respond all team posts.
3. Provide instructions in the discussion post area which include the availability of the product poll to be completed by learners along with the length of time the poll will be open and the close date and time of the poll.
4. Create a course poll for learners to rank up to 10 responsibilities.
5.Provide a grading rubric so learners understand the level of interaction required and the number of posts required (original and responses) along with a team member evaluation.
6. Develop posting requirements – for example include key words in the subject line; reminder of netiquette and discussion board
tips.

e-Classroom Facilitation Monitor postings for netiquette and appropriate communication – intervene only when necessary; encourage learners to review all posts of their peers for a positive online group experience. Notify learners of the final poll results. Check in with teams for progress.

Learners are to create a new product to be marketed to the other teams - the choice is the teams to make and should be something that is appropriate to share with the class. The product must cost no more than $40. The team will prepare a presentation (video, YouTube, power point, other) to be presented to the class and each member of the class will vote on which one product they would buy and provide feedback as to why they chose the product. Use the information from Part 5 of the book, chapters 11, 12 and 13 to address all of the marketing issues.
Follow these guidelines -at a minimum address the following items:
1. What is your target market and why did you select the market?
2. What is the buying behavior associated with your product and how did this influence your marketing strategy?
3. What is your product life cycle?
4. What is your pricing strategy?
5. What is your distribution strategy?
6. What is your promotion strategy?
7. Will you use digital media and how - why?
8. Submit the final presentation in the class discussion forum as a team.
9. Learners will also view all team submissions and choose the product they wish to by responding to a class poll.
10. Use the Team Review Form to rate team members and submit via email to the instructor.
11. The assignment is due by the beginning of finals week - Monday at 6:00 a.m.
12. Grading: 40 Business in Practice points awarded - 20 per the grading rubric and 20 from the team review form. Points are awarded based on the average score of the review form by taking the score and multiplying by the number of responses and then multiplying by .61539 (the percentage of 40/65) for a weighted score.
